Position Summary:
The Sr. Histotechnologist processes surgical, autopsy and study specimens for pathologic diagnosis, including tissue fixation, processing, freezing, microtomy, frozen sectioning and staining slides for microscopic examination by the Pathologist.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday; 11:00 pm to 7:30 am

Responsibilities:
Performs special staining techniques, including immunohistochemical, immunofluorescent, and enzyme histochemical stains.
Operates computerized equipment for processing and staining of specimens.
Uses laboratory computer system to add, cancel and verify completed orders.
Performs and documents quality control and preventive maintenance procedures.
Troubleshoots instruments, processing and staining processes.
Places engineering and biomedical service requests as needed.
Prepares stock and working reagents and maintains adequate supply.
Performs specimen receiving, processing, answers the telephone and greets guests to the department.
Reports all unacceptable quality control and instrument failures to senior technologist, pathology coordinator, manager and/or Pathologist, and documents discrepancies and resolutions.
Assumes responsibilities such as outside facility frozen section room maintenance, projects, teaching, technologist in charge, reagent validations and evaluation of new technology.
Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions:
Maintains an active role in laboratory quality improvement program including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators.
Follows established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agencies' requirements.
Practices infection control and safety policies.
Maintains confidentiality of patient records, hospital and departmental matters at all times.
Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from an approved school of Histotechnology.
Licensure/Certification: Current license in the State of Florida as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Qualification: Histology Technologist.
Experience: 2 years experience.
