Overview

Clinic Coordinator - Plastics (Medical Center) role at Houston Methodist. The Clinic Coordinator is a multifaceted clinic-based role which, in conjunction with management, organizes the daily activities of the clinic to support provider, patient, staff, and management needs. Responsibilities may include scheduling activities (appointments, procedures, and/or surgeries), ensuring medical necessity compliance, and verifying eligibility for care. The role also includes training and orienting Medical Assistants, organizing daily clinic operations, and promoting safety, quality, service, education, and innovation for patients. Responsibilities

Coordinates patient flow, obtains patient demographics as needed, prepares patients for provider/mid-level visits, and provides backup to clinic staff. Organizes daily schedules and work activities; provides coverage to meet patient needs. Assists with triage, prescriptions, refills and referrals; acts as a clinical resource and preceptor, mentoring colleagues to provide optimal patient care and delivering structured feedback with examples. Works with clinical management to assess and determine clinic process protocols; conducts meetings with clinic staff and Practice Manager. Service Essential Functions

Engages in planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of clinic operations. Collaborates with leadership, other clinics, and Medical Assistants to develop new processes for patient care. Oversees documentation of vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical/social history as appropriate; documents care and procedures in the EMR in accordance with policies. Quality/Safety Essential Functions

Interprets orders, safety rules, and operating instructions; follows up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations, results, and follow-ups; promotes MyChart use. Manages initial investigations for internal and external complaints; coordinates care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources when appropriate. Role models professional behavior to improve patient satisfaction scores; leads Environment of Care rounds in the clinic setting. Finance Essential Functions

Oversees clinic resources aligned with budget goals; assists in long-range planning of clinic needs. Arranges pre-authorizations and pre-certifications for procedures as needed. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions

Participates in curriculum development for Graduate Medical Assistant staff and provides guidance for new clinical employees. Collaborates with clinic management on process improvement. Qualifications

Education High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool equivalency, post-secondary education, etc.) Work Experience Five years as a Senior/Advanced Medical Assistant; two years of demonstrated leadership experience preferred; one year of training experience preferred. Licenses and Certifications - Required BLS (Basic Life Support) of either the instructor or provider level; Medical Assistant Certification CMA from NAHP/NCCT/NHA/AAMA or RMA from AMT or CCMA from NHA. Licenses and Certifications - Preferred CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient in EPIC; strong clinical and care coordination knowledge; effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff; proficiency in computer documentation; ability to maintain accurate medical records; willingness to engage in continuous training and education; ability to work in a team and establish effective working relationships. Supplemental Requirements Work Attire Scrubs yes; Uniform no; Business professional no. On-Call Typically on-call requirements vary by emergencies; No on-call responsibility indicated.
