Overview
Identifies, collects, and manages health, medical and outcome information on trauma patients in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Primary responsibilities include abstracting and coding patient injuries and treatments from various sources and maintaining and updating existing patient records. Responsibilities
Efficient and timely processing of Trauma Registry data: enters all collected patient data into the computerized Trauma Registry data system in a manner that meets accuracy, completeness and timeliness requirements of the American College of Surgeons' Committee on Trauma. Utilizes the AIS and ICD-9 scoring systems with injured patients. Collaborates with other team members to ensure data accuracy and provides input for inclusion/exclusion into the registry. As needed, re-abstracts core information from patient medical records (including demographic characteristics, history of injuries, diagnostic procedures and treatment); also contacts referring hospital and EMS agencies for information. Uses internal support to troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software problems. Collaborates with EGH for annual trauma registry update. Keeps registry updated to current version. Ensures the confidentiality and security of patient data stored in the Trauma registry files. Aligns with NTDB dictionary to ensure data point knowledge and updates required for ACS Level III trauma center verification and yearly data submissions. Collaborates with Indiana State Registry data download requirements; discusses or identifies issues with Indiana State level Registrar. Trauma Quality
Runs quality reports as requested or determined by quality review for Trauma Committee and Trauma Morbidity and Mortality Conference. Coordinates and answers requests for data and maintains Data Request Log according to established policy and procedures. Provides written reports from the Trauma Registry for performance improvement, Trauma Service report cards, and Trauma Surgeon report cards. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the department
Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned. Active Staffer Date Entry and Running of Reports
Process state board of health staffing reports as requested. Print 2-3 days of the daily staffing every night. Ensure notes are entered for all absences/LOAs, STDs. Accurately enters all absences, LOAs and other non-productive time into scheduling system. Make copies and maintains a supply of the daily staffing sheets. Take confidential papers to HR. Utilizes the nursing supervisor staffing allocation sheets to enter actual staffing into the scheduling system every shift. Enters all 1:1's and the nursing personnel taking care of them accurately in Active Staffer. Runs next shift staffing sheet for Nursing Supervisor. Maintains data for administrative reports and maintains vex list. Organizational Responsibilities
Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared. Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department-specific education within established timeframes. Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes. Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year. Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department. Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance. Complies with established organization and department policies. Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required. Beacon Way and Education

Solid understanding of medical terminology, ICD-9 coding systems, anatomy and physiology. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, work independently and as part of a team. Proficiency in basic computer skills (data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software). Analytical skills to gather and process data and identify problems; detail-oriented. Solid secretarial/office skills and ability to operate standard office equipment. Effective written and verbal communication; understanding of patient confidentiality.
