The Health on Wheels mobile medicine program features state‑of‑the‑art mobile health clinics with full exam rooms that provide services to two primary groups: hard to reach populations with barriers to accessing care and underserved students at select schools within Elica’s service area. The program delivers services to those who are unable to visit a standing clinic due to barriers, such as lack of transportation, language difficulties, homelessness, mental illness, and more. The Medical Assistant will provide excellent customer service at all times to all who enter the clinic. They will be responsible to check in patients, complete the registration process, and run insurance verification. Additionally, they will be responsible to perform routine clinical and administrative tasks, working alongside Medical Providers and licensed professionals to deliver excellent and quality patient care services. Performs data collection for assessment purposes under the direction of a Medical Provider and assists with maintaining a smooth patient flow through the clinic while adhering to HIPAA confidentiality in all phases of work. What Are We Looking For?
Prepares the exam room and work station for Medical Provider; cleans and stocks rooms in between patients Participates in daily huddles with the provider each morning at the beginning of their shift Greets, prepares the patient, performs vitals measurements accurately, takes patient history, and allergies, records and reconciles all prescribed medication with the patient during each visit. Inputs information into the EHR, and assists the Medical Provider with exams and procedures as needed Administers injections and diagnostic test & referrals as ordered, including immunizations or other services ordered by the Medical Provider and documents accurately in the EHR system. Completes Standing Orders per Elica’s policies. Performs Tuberculosis Skin test (TST), CLIA waived tests including and limited to Urine Dip test, Urine Pregnancy Test, Strep A, HbA1c, PT/INR, Glucose, and Hemoglobin on patients with specific complaints or as required for HEDIS or CHDP requirements prior to being seen by the Medical Provider Documents all immunizations in the EHR according to standards and immunization log binders Records temperature from data logger for refrigerator and freezer daily and to temperature log in the morning and before the end of the shift Performs diagnostic and laboratory tests including but not limited to audiometry, EKG, spirometry, urine dips, acu-check, urine HCG, hemoglobin, etc. Performs age appropriate screening as needed or as directed by Medical Provider Checks‑in patients and completes full registration in a timely manner including scanning in completed patient intake packet, insurance card, and identification card into the EHR system. Checks out patients in the system and schedule follow up appointments. Enters every patient’s data, including scanning all paperwork relating to patient care, into the EHR before the end of the shift Conducts chart preparation to ensure all of the patients' charts include full registration, insurance card, demographics and forms are updated accordingly. Also ensures all patient charts include diagnostic and laboratory results, advanced directive, TB assessment, staying healthy assessment, and PHQ9. Uses critical thinking skills to address patient intake and registration questions, correctly referring to Eligibility Workers when appropriate If an Eligibility Worker is not available, checks patient eligibility on the state medical website, calls private insurances and/or Medicare to check patient’s eligibility The Successful Candidate Has
High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program At least 6 months to 1 year experience as Medical Assistant Current BLS/CPR certification required Knowledge of care and procedures within the scope of a Medical Assistant. Previous HIPAA compliance training and knowledge a must Ability to maintain records and files Ability to operate a computer, use office equipment including a copier, office telephone, and appropriate clinic equipment Previous experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality a must Ability to provide excellent customer service reflecting Elica’s values of respect Bilingual Russian/Spanish/Slavic is highly preferred Additional Requirements
Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours. If selected for an employment opportunity with Elica Health Centers, external hires must provide proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella & Tetanus), tuberculosis clearance, and proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to their scheduled start date. This position is subject to criminal background investigation and drug screen. Elica Health Centers adheres to the mandates issued by the California Department of Public Health regarding COVID-19 vaccine. Medical and religious exemptions will be considered. The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
