The

Sr Tool & Mold Maker

is primarily responsible for handling complex tasks in mold tooling design and plastic injection molding processes. You will apply advanced technical skills and problem‑solving abilities while adhering to procedures. As a

Sr Tool & Mold Maker , you will be trusted to support production operations by helping troubleshoot, diagnose, and make repairs to injection molds at our Manufacturing Facility in Houston, TX.

Handle highly complex technical tasks related to mold tooling design and plastic injection molding processes, supporting operations and contributing to efficiency within defined procedures.

Make significant decisions within the scope of your tasks, requiring advanced technical skills and problem‑solving abilities.

Adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintaining accurate and complete documentation.

Ensure rigorous quality control and comply with regulatory requirements.

Complete all required training and commit to continuous improvement in operations.

Maintain precision molds in a production environment.

Evaluate and complete repairs/modifications and perform mold preventative maintenance.

Collect and document measurement results and generate reports.

Perform routine operations of tool room equipment including, but not limited to, manual mills, lathes, surface grinders, CNC and EDM machines.

Disassemble, clean, repair, and replace defective parts in a variety of complex molding tools.

Perform mold and tooling setups and repairs, verify part quality and critical process parameters, evaluate mold repairs/modifications, conduct basic machine and mold maintenance, and monitor/verify daily production quantities and efficiencies in accordance with SOPs.

Evaluate new processes, components, products, and systems in conformance with engineering specifications.

Test, adjust, and maintain electromechanical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, hydro‑mechanical, and pressure‑type measuring and indicating instruments.

Set up methods and procedures according to detailed specifications, blueprints, drawings, and requirements.

Assign and monitor work for other technicians.

Isolate problems for further analysis.

This role is a critical component of our 7‑day‑a‑week Toolroom support for our four molding production suites.

What you’ll bring to Alcon:

High School Diploma or equivalent

The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.

2 Years of relevant experience

Work hours: Tuesday – Friday; 4:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. CST

Travel requirements: 0 – 5%

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

Manufacturing toolroom experience within the medical device industry

Understanding of mold design, function, and applications.

Ability to diagnose problems in a production environment to determine when mold repairs are needed.

Knowledge of fits, tolerances and allowable mold running parameters.

Basic hot‑runner repair experience.

Proficiency in mold polishing.
