Hinckley Yachts has been building and servicing America’s finest yachts since 1928. The Hinckley Company, known for building and servicing strong, seaworthy, and beautiful yachts, is seeking skilled Carpenters for our production facility in Topsham, Maine. The Carpenter performs intricate joiner and carpentry tasks on and off boats, following blueprints and scale drawings with minimal supervision. The Carpenter will work through standardized aspects of yacht construction for most models, as well as pre-fabrication within an established schedule. Carpentry Levels:

Carpentry 1:

Pre-fab, deck hardware, rough carpentry trim work experience (1-2 years). Carpentry 2:

2 plus years in a construction setting, may read prints, proficient with tools, some woodworking. Responsibilities:

Transfer dimensions to marine plywood and other construction materials using tape measure, square, and marking/layout devices. Make accurate cuts of wood and other materials using table and chop saws and other related power tools. Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints. Layout, cut, and assemble boat parts, such as doors, paneling, boxes, rails, and trim. Good working knowledge of most woodworking joints in the marine industry, such as scarf, sill splice, lap, finger, and dovetail. Skilled knowledge and use of epoxies and vinylester resins or other adhesives to bond parts. Understand yachting terminology, local and industry, e.g., port/starboard, gump (trim moulding), and bung (wood plug). Use reading and writing, adding and subtracting of whole numbers and fractions. Follow defined instructions and procedures in performance of tasks. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe, clean work area. All work to be performed and manufactured to Hinckley quality standards. Perform other related duties as necessary. Requirements:

High school or general equivalency degree (GED) required. Coursework in wood and/or metals preferred. Knowledge, operation, and set-up of tape measure, square, hand saw, hand plane, table saw, chop saw, planer, joiner, band saw, shaper, surface sander, and router. Twelve (12) months carpentry, plus 2 years boatbuilding experience which may be attained on-the-job and by company training. Physical Requirements:

Lift and carry over 60 lbs. on an occasional basis (over 15% and up to 40%). Requires moderate physical demand, occasionally lifting or moving heavy weight material and working in difficult work positions (standing long periods of time, on knees for long periods of time). Requires continuous mental and visual attention on an intermittent basis. Must be able to lift, bend, kneel, stoop, push, and pull. Requires working under disagreeable conditions on a frequent basis where elements such as dust, dirt, heat, fumes, cold, vibration, noise, water, or chemicals may be present.
