Airport Maintenance Supervisor
We are seeking a dynamic and skilled leader to join our team as an Airport Maintenance Supervisor. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction and maintenance, with proven experience in managing preventative maintenance programs, budgets, inventory, and personnel. This role requires a proactive, detail‑oriented professional who is highly organized, safety‑focused, and approachable. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and communication skills, working effectively with employees, patrons, and vendors to ensure the seamless operation of our airport facilities. This unique position offers an exciting opportunity to serve the largest general aviation airport in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Manassas Regional Airport, which is transitioning into a commercial service airport.
Salary range:
$73,174.40 – $100,609.60 . The position is open until filled and may close at any time. This position will sometimes be on call after hours to respond to emergencies.

Essential Job Functions
Staff Supervision : Directs, evaluates, and supports airport maintenance personnel; schedules and oversees work; reviews and approves timesheets; handles hiring, training, employee relations, appraisals, and discipline.
Technical Expertise : Oversees troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of airport systems such as navigational aids, lighting, HVAC, and other mechanical systems.
Facility Maintenance : Supervises the building maintenance program; develops and oversees preventative maintenance schedules for air conditioning units, elevators, plumbing, electrical, fire‑alarm systems; maintains the airport control tower.
Ground Maintenance : Oversees the maintenance of runways, taxiways, grounds, including managing landscaping and pesticide programs.
Inspections and Compliance : Conducts maintenance inspections of airfield systems, ensuring compliance with FAA and Virginia Department of Aviation regulations, and maintains logs for inspection.
Documentation and Reporting : Prepares maintenance logs, bid specifications, and blueprints; issues NOTAMs; maintains parts inventory; generates reports for management and regulatory bodies.
Vendor and Contractor Management : Coordinates with external vendors and contractors for various maintenance activities and projects.
Budget and Planning : Assists in budget preparation for maintenance operations; monitors expenditures; prepares for future projects, ensuring budget alignment.
Safety Compliance : Leads safety meetings, ensures OSHA compliance, and supports aircraft recovery operations during emergencies.
Communication and Collaboration : Liaises with airport directors, staff, tenants, FAA controllers, contractors, and other stakeholders; prepares and presents progress reports and presentations; participates in committees and councils.
Emergency Response : Responds to emergencies such as aircraft accidents, hazardous spills, or airfield power outages.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High school diploma.
Five years of experience in general equipment and building maintenance and repairs, including supervisory experience.
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Experience with radio communications with FAA Air Traffic Control, issuing Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and troubleshooting airfield lighting systems is desirable.
Special Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications such as CFC Refrigeration certification and Pesticide Technician certification, or complete them when offered by the City; may be required to possess additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.
Must be able to pass a TSA Criminal Background Check in accordance with TSRA Part 1542 to acquire and maintain an airport security badge.
A post‑offer, pre‑employment background check, DMV check, physical and drug test are required for the selected incumbent.
