Apply today to join our team in Richmond, VA. This field service technician role focuses on the repair, maintenance, and servicing of heavy machinery on the shop floor and in the field.
Pay
Base pay range:
$28.00/hr – $40.00/hr
(bonus eligible). Your actual pay will be based on skills and experience. Responsibilities & Duties
Perform repairs in a safe, timely, and cost‑effective manner both in the shop and in the field. Troubleshoot electrical, engine, transmission, brake, steering, frame, cab, and hydraulic systems using diagrams, service manuals, and diagnostic equipment. Inform customers of problems, repair costs, and necessary parts; order parts and follow up on backorders. Weld equipment as needed and conduct routine maintenance checks (fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches). Complete paperwork promptly: daily notes, timecards, tech‑line reports, expense reports, and warranty parts. Maintain the service truck by completing daily inspections and using the electronic logging device (ELD). Continuously seek knowledge through meetings, seminars, and training courses. Skills & Knowledge
Intermediate, experienced, or advanced knowledge levels, depending on experience. Understanding of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment for motor vehicle and engine repair. Proficiency with hand tools, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists. Skillful use of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment. Able to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions. Skilled in reading manuals and schematics. Capable of rebuilding engines and major driveline components. Effective communication with other mechanics regarding repair work. Proficient in entering data into repair management software. Physical Demands & Working Environment
Lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant finger dexterity required. Must be able to lift 70 lbs. Must operate a forklift safely. Must pass a pre‑employment WorkSTEPS physical assessment. Must pass a background check and drug screen. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels, and outdoor work in various climates. Must possess a clean MVR, valid driver’s license, and obtain a DOT Medical Certification. Job Requirements
Clean MVR. Pass drug screen, Functional Capacity Test, and DOT physical. Successful completion of a satisfactory background check before accepting the position. High School diploma; 2‑year trade school preferred. Continuing education with verifiable credits from manufacturer technical schools or training programs. Certifications for MSHA, First Aid/CPR, etc. required. Benefits
