Lead Sterile Processing Technician, Sterile Processing

— Full time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Night shift Responsibilities

Under the direction of department leadership, responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and high level disinfection and sterilization of surgical instruments. Operates processing equipment. Proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and knowledge of sterilization methods appropriate to devices processed. Proficient in surgical case picking as well as endoscopy reprocessing. Serves as shift lead technician. Serves as shift lead technician. Responsible for decontamination, inspection, packaging, and sterilization workflows per guidelines. Lead and mentor staff; orientates new employees to specific duties; provides guidance and training; acts as backup in absence of department coordinator. Ensures supervised staff are trained and evaluated. Decontaminates surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions; operates washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, cart washer, and automatic endoscope reprocessor (AER). Inspects instruments after decontamination for cleanliness, integrity, functionality, and traceability. Assembles trays, uses count sheets, and interfaces with instrument tracking system for processing functions. Packages or containers instrument sets according to manufacturer guidelines and AAMI standards; ensures aseptic opening in the operating room. Loads sterilizer carts properly to avoid damage; handles wrapped goods and containers per recommendations. Conducts daily sterilizer tests on steam and low-temperature sterilizers; operates sterilizers per manufacturer instructions; monitors biological indicators and ensures proper documentation. Documents load contents, interfaces with tracking system, records cycle parameters, and maintains sterilization records (biological, mechanical, chemical). Unloads sterilizers, ensures items are not compromised, and stores appropriately per instrument tracking locations. Follows endoscope processing instructions and accepted standards/guidelines. Prepares hospital requisitions as needed; communicates with management on items received from outside vendors. Answers phones and relays information to staff as needed. Maintains inventories and par levels of instruments. Assists with departmental records and performs instrument and scope audits. Follows policies, procedures, safety standards; completes required education; participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Minimum Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of surgical instrument or instrument technician experience. Experience in on-boarding, orientation, training and mentorship of new staff to all areas of sterile processing. Licensure/Certification:

IAHCSMM CRCST or CBSPD CSPDT certification. Also, CIS certification within 90 days of hire or promotion into the position. Details
