CDM Smith’s Environmental Services Group seeks an Engineer, Scientist, or Geologist with experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or a working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) in remediation projects combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience related to remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.

Responsibilities

Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with CapSim is preferred.

Experience using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including following direction from a senior engineer with minimal oversight.

Experience performing slope stability modeling.

Experience developing field sampling programs and subsequent data analyses to support the development of conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes, including interpreting results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.

Experience with numerical and/or desktop model development, calibration, and application.

Experience evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.

Serve as CDM Smith’s primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; assess and understand problems and develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Equivalent directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Science or Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.

Preferred: Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable, within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer.
