Required Skills/Experience
Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (required).
Leadership skills demonstrated through ability.
At least 5 years of experience in controls engineering or automation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Strong experience with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and other industrial control systems.
Working knowledge of ISO 14001/TS 16949 procedures and policies.
Proficient in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
Knowledge of electrical circuits, instrumentation, and industrial automation standards.
Experience with Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint and MS Project.
Knowledge of high-speed assembly processes.
Good communication skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Employee must have good time management and organization skills.
Must be able to work weekends when required.
Good understanding of robotics and robot capabilities.
Attention to detail is a must.
Duties
Supervise, mentor, and train a team of controls engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
Allocate tasks and manage workloads to ensure the timely completion of projects.
Conduct performance reviews and foster a collaborative and positive working environment.
Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of control systems and automation solutions for production lines or industrial equipment.
Ensure the implementation of safety standards and compliance with regulations in control system designs.
Collaborate with other engineering teams to integrate control systems with machinery, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), SCADA systems, and other automation tools.
Ensure a safe & healthful work environment.
Provide technical support in troubleshooting complex control system issues.
Lead the effort in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving control system failures, improving system uptime and reliability.
Promote the continuous improvement of control systems by reviewing system performance and making recommendations for improvements.
Implement new technologies and methodologies to improve process automation and control system efficiency.
Oversee the scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of control system projects.
Ensure that projects meet specifications, deadlines, and quality standards.
Track progress and manage resources effectively to optimize project outcomes.
Serve as the primary point of contact for control system-related issues within the organization.
Work closely with operations, production, maintenance, and engineering teams to align control systems with operational goals.
Prepare and present reports on project progress, system performance, and issues to senior management.
Ensure control systems meet all safety and regulatory requirements.
Stay updated on industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in automation and controls engineering.
Uphold the Magna corporate constitution promoting fair treatment.
Ensure that all company policies are maintained without prejudice.
Attend internal meetings and act on concerns and issues raised.
Responsible for ensuring that the environmental management system is reviewed on an annual basis and to ensure that environmental policies and procedures are being adhered to by all employees.
Meet with Manufacturing Engineers to review open issues.
All other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Adhere to all MAFACT requirements.
Must comply with all ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) systems and standards as it pertains to their work.
Abide by all AODA and C-TPAT procedures that apply to their position.
Adheres to the IATF 16949 Standard as required.
Applicants must be able to provide proper work authorization.
