Overview

The Locomotive Mechanic/Electrician inspects, repairs and maintains locomotives consistent with company polices. Responsibilities

Constantly searching for both safe and productive ways of performance Coordinate locomotive mechanical department functions with all other departments Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers Perform air tests, inspect and repair locomotives or components for structural defects and wear according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines Possess working knowledge of the proper use of various wear limit gauges and testing equipment Possess the ability to complete written forms and reports as well as necessary FRA reports pertaining to machinist position responsibilities Possess the ability to become a qualified locomotive inspector according to the FRA regulations Familiar with state and federal regulations as it relates to the railroad industry Able to perform emergency repairs and re-railing of railroad rolling stock Develop the skills of subordinate Team Members to assure highly qualified successors are in place Test, inspect and repair locomotives or components for electrical malfunctions or defects according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines Able to perform emergency repairs and have a basic understanding of electrical theory, AC and DC motors, control circuits, and electrical schematics Have a basic mechanical aptitude to perform the required electrical and mechanical maintenance in order to troubleshoot electrical faults such as grounded circuits, open interlocks, broken wires, etc. Other responsibilities as assigned Qualifications

Technical Skills – troubleshooting and repair of motors, generators, and transformers Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable by company insurance provider to drive and operate company vehicles and equipment as necessary Have or are able to obtain a Class B CDL driver’s license Have the ability to become a qualified Service Engineer according to FRA regulations and will be required to perform electrical duties as required Education

High School diploma or equivalent Completed a three year Railroad Apprenticeship or have four years railroad mechanic and electrician related experience or five years’ experience in some other mechanical or electrician field Details
