Mechanical Engineer - Fixed Equipment
to join our growing
Thermal & Specialized Solutions Business
team. The position will be available at the
Chemours Corpus Christi Plant
located in
Ingleside, TX
and will report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager.
This role will serve as a Plant Support Engineer for one or more areas of the assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall Mechanical Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will entail involvement in day‑to‑day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reliability, cost, and new capital installations.
Responsibilities:
Provide mechanical expertise for troubleshooting, maintaining, and modifying operating equipment and facilities.
Provide technical troubleshooting and training for the operating and maintenance teams.
Provide Mechanical expertise for project work to ensure its compliance with specifications, engineering standards and quality assurance.
Lead PSM criticality assessment process to ensure adequate rationale is provided to develop and manage the MIQA effort, including critical spare parts, SAP data, inspection plans and frequencies, and maintenance procedures.
Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and uptime data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain the lowest life cycle cost on different classes of equipment.
Lead and participate in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations.
Participate in maintenance and reliability networks and share best practices, successes, and failures.
Perform failure mode and effect analyses to develop appropriate equipment maintenance plans to include equipment checks and predictive preventative maintenance (PPM) performed by operators and mechanics.
Provide support for both cost and capital projects, including scope development, justification, and coordinating installation of new/modified facilities.
Maintain personal level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations.
Provide shift/weekend coverage for start‑ups, tests, maintenance turnarounds, or other non‑routine needs.
Travel requirements are less than 15 percent of the year.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
3+ years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience in fixed equipment (will consider up to 1 year of degree relevant intern / co‑op experience).
Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering fixed equipment principles (piping, pressure vessels, valves, and welding).
Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems – making data‑based decisions.
Comfortable working both independently and in a team environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs based on customer input. Proven ability to effectively communicate through all levels of an organization.
High degree of initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities.
Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in related manufacturing industry or Military Equivalent Experience.
Strong background in the following:
Maintenance and reliability best practices including the work management process and basic materials science including material selection and properties.
Knowledge in related fields such as non‑destructive testing, welding, fabrication, working with third party fabricators.
Knowledge of any of the following: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Section 8), ASME Piping Codes (B.31) and API Codes (preference for API 510, API 570), welding and fabrication processes and repair procedures.
Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills, failure analysis including preservation of evidence techniques, engineering design standards and their application, Cost/Capital analysis and justification.
Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) or experience in a OSHA high hazard process area.
Previous experience working with SAP or related software.
