Minimum Requirements
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry or biochemistry and three (3) years of professional chemical or biochemical experience;
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry or biochemistry and two (2) years of professional experience as described above;
A doctorate from an accredited college or university with a major in chemistry or biochemistry.
Certain positions within this class require individuals to meet specific federal or state regulations as identified by the employing agency.
Educational Note: Graduates utilizing education attained in the United States to meet the minimum requirements of a position will not be appointed until verification of the applicable degree has been obtained. Foreign trained graduates must provide a credential evaluation from an Approved Credential Evaluation Agency.
Please note: A numerically based work sample will be administered with an established minimum required passing score to all eligible candidates as part of the hiring process.
Job Duties General: The duties and responsibilities for this position are directly related to the agency mission regarding the number of official samples analyzed and analytical tests conducted. Assists the Bureau Quality Assurance Officer (QAO)/Quality Manager in identifying, drafting, reviewing, tracking, maintaining and archiving the Quality Assurance (QA) policies, procedures and documentation needed to obtain and maintain The NELAC Institute (TNI) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 accreditation for the Bureau of Agricultural Environmental Laboratories (BAEL). Provides QA ISO training to laboratory personnel, conducts internal performance audits of the bureau's quality system and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintains the bureau's proficiency sample program, validates analyses in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and conducts QA performance audits of certified and exempt feed laboratories. Serves as the deputy Quality Assurance Officer and acts as the QAO in the absence of the QAO. Oversees the compilation, review and determinations of nutrient and mycotoxin analysis data submitted from certified laboratories for commercial feed samples, validates analytical results in the LIMS, and performs other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
