Overview
Responsible, under the supervision of the RN and OR coordinator, for assisting with the set-up of the operating room for procedures. Ensuring equipment is available and functioning, picking instruments and needed items for cases, transporting specimens, transporting patients when needed, and restocking of supplies. Assisting Anesthesiologists as needed. Qualifications
Required: High school diploma or GED Basic Life Support with American Heart Association required within 90 days of starting Preferred: Experience in an operating room Scheduling Requirements
11:00am - 7:30pm Full Time Weekend and holiday on call rotation Essential Functions
Places supplies in the appropriate storage areas Apply appropriate techniques required to assist nursing in positioning the surgical patient Restock scrub sink areas, locker room areas for hats, shoe covers, etc Bring stretchers to room at end of case, lock and assist with taking patients off the OR bed Run errands as needed, i.e., obtain blood, take items for copying, pick up ICU beds, take specimens to designate departments (e.g., oncology, mammography), and to the lab Check equipment and bring non-functioning or broken items to desk Checks OR schedule for case cart completion Pull outdates, remove from inventory and return to OR office for disposition Check each OR room for proper equipment, e.g., armboards, table parts, stirrups, Clark sockets, etc. Put away equipment that does not belong in the rooms Assure case carts in department (assure no missing items) Return the “return” cart to CSS Runs errands as needed to be included but not limited to i.e. obtain blood, take items for copying, pick up ICU bed Takes specimens to various departments i.e. pathology (fresh and frozen), Lab (cultures), mammography Assists with checking of expiration dates and the cleaning of OR supply carts and specialty carts Benefits and About RWJBarnabas Health
