Overview
12 Month Nursing Instructor – Medical Surgical Nursing position at Lehigh Carbon Community College. The Nursing Instructor, Medical Surgical Nursing is responsible for instruction, guidance, and evaluation of students in the Nursing program. Content covers fundamentals, medical, surgical, and complex healthcare needs. The role involves ongoing program development, collaboration with program faculty, use of multiple instructional methods, and travel to clinical sites. Reports directly to the Director of Nursing. Responsibilities
Teach courses in accordance with the master course outline and within the schedule of classes. Maintain and submit appropriate academic records. Recommend changes to instructional programs and curricula; participate in curriculum development including online teaching. Maintain instructional effectiveness by self-evaluation and incorporating current developments in instructional and learning strategies. Assist librarians in keeping college collections and services current. Assist the college in keeping technology, facilities, and equipment current. Plan with the Director of Nursing to ensure availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment necessary for teaching assigned classes. Maintain regular office hours for student consultation as approved by the Dean of Health Care Sciences or Director of Nursing. Serve as faculty advisor to student organizations (voluntary) and to students in the nursing program. Recruit students for programs of study. Participate in academic audits, division program and course assessments, and accreditation activities. Actively participate in faculty development activities and maintain professional development in the medical field. Collaborate with counselors, advisors, and other college staff to respond to student needs. Work with Director of Nursing/Dean and fellow faculty, including adjuncts, to maintain academic standards and integrity; provide education in the clinical setting. Collaborate with Deans, Director of Nursing, and faculty to determine program and course expansion initiatives for online and regional education. Assist in preparing budgets and academic schedules for submission to the Dean of Health Care Sciences or Director of Nursing. Maintain memberships in appropriate professional organizations. Attend and participate in faculty meetings; serve on college committees and advisory boards as appropriate. Discharge additional duties normally associated with college faculty and develop an operational manual. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Work with new faculty in the department. Qualifications
Education Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited college. Certifications Current, unencumbered RN license from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; compliance with clinical site vaccination requirements; Act 153 Clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114). Work Experience Strong clinical expertise in medical and surgical nursing with complex healthcare needs; direct patient care or teaching experience within two years of employment; experience in critical care nursing; experience in teaching simulated clinicals. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Familiarity with the mission of a comprehensive community college; high level of teamwork, initiative, customer service, and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge; health outcomes oriented and able to meet clinical site requirements. Clinical Must meet health and background requirements required by clinical sites. Preferred Focus on nursing education; teaching experience in a community college environment; experience in curriculum and course material development; bilingual Spanish (preferred); doctorate desirable. Physical Demands
Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear; may lift up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close and distance vision. Work Environment
