Responsibilities
In accordance with state and federal regulations, assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy and other Pharmacy Department duties in line with Company policies. Utilize pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, assist with and coach other technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers. Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive customer experience, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits. Develop strong relationships with valued customers.
Operations
Under pharmacist supervision, assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with policy and compliance standards. Review and follow the Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including entering patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy, filling prescriptions, verifying medicines, and checking for interactions. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and workflow. Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow Company policies on pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during dispensing activities. Register related sales on the assigned cash register and assist customers in locating products. Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s attention and assist with third-party claims processing and other clerical duties as assigned. Assist with inventory management activities (ordering, unpacking, checking, storing) and maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques, including claims for discrepancies or damages involving Rx drugs. May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including sample collection and labeling, and coordinate clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. Help develop and maintain relationships with the local medical community through outreach and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers. Maintain a neat and stocked Pharmacy Department environment; ensure supplies and cleanliness meet store standards. Adhere to all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments as needed.
Training & Personal Development
Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state certification/registration. Certification may be a condition of promotion to senior technician. Attend training requested by management and pursue continuing education to maintain knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy developments.
Qualifications
External Basic Qualifications Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Preferred Qualifications Six months of experience in a retail environment preferred. Prior experience with Walgreens preferred. Good math skills for accurate counting, measuring, and weighing of medications. Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control preferred. PTCB certification preferred.
