The role requires expertise in open heart procedures, vein harvesting, and cardiothoracic surgery with rotating weekends and on-call coverage. Provide surgical first assist support during cardiovascular and open heart procedures, including aid in exposure, hemostasis, and technical functions to help surgeons achieve optimal patient outcomes. Perform saphenous vein harvesting using current techniques and best practices for coronary artery bypass procedures. Assist with cardiothoracic surgeries including CABG, valve replacements, and other cardiovascular interventions requiring advanced surgical assistance. Maintain sterile technique and ensure proper handling of instruments, equipment, and surgical supplies throughout procedures. Collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and OR teams to deliver seamless perioperative care. Anticipate surgeon needs and provide proactive assistance during complex cardiovascular cases. Participate in on-call rotation (1 day per week plus 1 weekend per month) to support emergent cardiac cases. Maintain current knowledge of cardiovascular surgical techniques, equipment, and evidence-based practices. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and safety protocols in the CVOR environment. Document surgical procedures accurately and assist with quality improvement initiatives. Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent Current Certification as Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through accredited agency Current Certification as Surgical First Assistant (SFA) through nationally accredited certification agency BLS (Basic Life Support) certification Current CVOR experience with open heart procedures (must specify total years of open heart experience) Current vein harvesting experience (must specify total years of vein harvesting experience) Demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical assisting Ability to work 10-hour or 12-hour shifts based on department needs Availability for on-call rotation (1 day weekly plus 1 weekend monthly) Preferred
