As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) related to in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on record review and the completed C&P examination. Charting from home may be required for this position. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran by providing an exceptional experience during these examinations to positively impact each Veteran. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights will help facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating continuity of care for those who need it most. Clinical Examiners will be guided through a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system, enabling you to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required. Please note that this position DOES NOT involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery. Job Responsibilities Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: Perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Travel up to 10% to include other Loyal Source Government Services clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: Assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran's medical history. Render Objective Medical Opinions: Provide unbiased and evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of the veteran's health issues and their impact on ability to work and daily activities based on examination findings, diagnostics, and medical record review. Manage Case Workload: Understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team. Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional medical information for a thorough evaluation. Document Examination Findings: Accurately record examination findings in medical opinions and relevant recommendations in clear reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Interdepartmental Collaboration: Partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and resources to complete tasks and meet deadlines. Time Management and Scheduling: Ensure effective submission and confirmation of availability and scheduling for all C&P exams. Compliance and Quality: Adhere to laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and quality. QA Collaboration and VA Training: Work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings and comply with VA training requirements; stay updated on VA MDE program requirements. Confidentiality and HIPAA: Safeguard patient information and examination results in line with privacy and security protocols; comply with HIPAA requirements and complete annual assessments. Qualifications Education and Licensing: Graduate of a nursing program accredited by a recognized body; valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory. Experience: At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner; experience in medical disability examinations or related field preferred. Certifications: Basic Life Support certification required, with renewals. Preferred: Prior military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities; specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations or occupational health is advantageous. Clinical Skills: Proficient in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostics, and forming evidence-based opinions. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey medical concepts clearly. Ethics and Integrity: Commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness in disability evaluations. Other: Detail-oriented, independent and collaborative, excellent organizational and time management skills, customer-focused with a sense of urgency; authorized to work in the United States for federal contractors. Reasoning and Technical Capabilities Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out detailed instructions in situations with a few variables. Technological Ability: Proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, and web-based platforms; familiarity with Teams and electronic medical records systems. Physical and Travel Requirements Prolonged periods of standing and desk work; ability to lift up to 15 pounds; full range of motion required for examinations. Travel: 10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events. Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm; holidays clinics are closed.
