Base pay range $18.00/hr - $24.00/hr

Associate Professor at University at Buffalo Part-time: 16-24 h/wk. Working days can be arranged with PI during Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.

Position Description Our lab is seeking highly motivated individuals with background in veterinary technology, veterinary surgical nursing and/or animal models to join our team at UB. The work will be performed in a fast-paced regenerative dentistry lab. Prior experience working with lab animals (rodents/ferrets/cats) is key. We are a multidisciplinary group seeking individuals to join our team who are excited to learn new things and are dedicated to the animals and project goals. Successful applicants are expected to assist with the planning and implementation of current and new animal models by:

Responsibilities

Perform diagnostic tests, x-rays and blood or fluid analyses.

Safely restrain animals and administer medications.

Prepare animals for surgery, including intubation, catheter placement, sterilizing tools, administering anesthesia, monitoring vital signs and anesthesia recovery.

Lab maintenance (handling/disposal of hazardous waste, inventory, ordering supplies).

Maintain procedure logs and anesthesia records.

Support in vivo studies in a strongly collaborative environment.

Tissue embedding/sectioning/histology (can be trained).

Microscopy and micro-CT scanning and data analysis (can be trained).

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in a related field.

Current Veterinary Technician license or equivalent experience.

At least one year of experience in a veterinary or laboratory setting.

Experience in anesthesia of small/mid-size animals and assisting in/performing surgery.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with laboratory techniques (histology sample processing and micro-CT).

Data organization experience in MS Excel.

Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocol.

Interest in contributing to publications.

Breakdown of job duties by percentages

Work with PI on animal procedures, anesthesia, monitoring and follow up care (35%).

Sample processing and analysis for histology, micro-CT (50%).

Maintain lab in working condition (keeping inventory of supplies and reagents, placing orders, updating protocols, arranging maintenance services for lab equipment, etc.) (10%).

Meet weekly with main investigator to discuss experiments and lab maintenance (5%).
