Overview Under the direction of a Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician, Sonographer performs sonographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail; performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative, using ultrasound for diagnosis.

Employment Type: Full time. Shift: Day Shift.

Qualifications

Licensure - American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Nuchal Translucency (NT) / Nasal Bone Certification eligible

C.L.E.A.R Certification eligible

Sonographer required to have current BLS card

Must have good working knowledge of anatomy.

Must have an understanding for the principles of physics, electricity, variation of anatomical postures – supine, prone, etc.

Must know methods of scanning to obtain clearly defined films.

Must be able to set up and operate equipment.

Must have knowledge of methods and techniques, patient care and sterile techniques to deal with all types and conditions of patients.

Maintains knowledge and complies with all relevant MFM standards and procedures and protocols.

Must keep abreast of new procedures, equipment and methods.

Responsibilities

Independently and collaboratively performs a variety of OB Perinatology ultrasound procedures according to MFM protocols. Ability to complete the following exams:

Ultrasound Ob

Ultrasound Ob > 14 wks

Ultrasound Ob 18-20 wk Screen for Malformation

Ultrasound Ob Transvaginal

Ultrasound Ob Biophysical profile

Ultrasound Ob Doppler Fetal Umbilical

Ultrasound Ob Nuchal Measure (NT)

Assist MFM in guidance of needle placement for Ultrasound Guided Amniocentesis for Genetic and FLM.

Verifies patient identification and correctness of order(s) according to department policy and procedure. Assumes responsibility and action to ensure the safety, care, comfort and satisfaction of the patient for the duration of the visit.

Thoroughly ascertains pertinent medical history and clinical information relative to a patient’s known or suspected condition or reason for procedure. Independently assesses appropriateness of ordered procedure and initiates changes/alternatives necessary to ensure patient safety and the procedure of most diagnostic value is performed.

Preparation of test for interpretation; discussion of case with MFM Physician; necessity of immediate action reports important findings to MFM Physician when not stationed in the Marian Women’s Center.

Independently and effectively resolves daily operational issues and conflicts up to own level of authority and apprises Coordinator and/or Director of issues and status.

Assumes responsibility for the care, utilization, maintenance of ultrasound equipment to perform at optimal levels of performance and safety.

Performs daily maintenance, evaluates and troubleshoots; expedites service requests and maintains documentation and service/safety records.

Effectively communicates problems and status with Coordinator and/or Director to facilitate operational alternatives.
