Role Overview Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (RN - ED). This role requires experience in trauma, stroke, and critical care scenarios. Travelers may be considered but are not preferred.
Traveler Policy
First‑time travelers: not preferred but considered.
Travelers to cover ED holds may be hired as Med/Tele RN.
Patient Types & Ratios
Trauma Level 1 – GSW, Stabbing, MVA, Falls, Stroke, etc.
Patient Ratio – RN: 1:5 max (acuity dependent)
CNA: 1:7
Required Licenses & Certifications
RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI; Preferred: TNCC
Med/Tele RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Valid driver’s license may be required.
Required Skills
Trauma experience, stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation
Conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement
Drain/tube management, critical care drips, blood administration
General Med/Tele skillset: trach care, PCA pumps, tube management
Medication Management
Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IV fluids
Support Team
CNA – ratios vary
Receptionist/HUC
Charge nurse (24/7)
Phlebotomy – peripheral blood draws only
IV/VAT Team
Resource Nurse as available
RT (24/7)
Hospitalist (24/7)
Intensivist (24/7)
Telemetry monitoring/tech assistance
Technology/Equipment: EMR – EPIC; IV Pump – Alaris; Med dispensing – Omnicell; Monitors – Phillips
Floating & Travel
Required to float per region needs across multiple facilities.
Traveler will be paid for time traveling between facilities.
Regions include Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH).
Orientation & Scheduling
2 days departmental orientation.
Weekend rotation: every other weekend.
No call for travelers.
Holiday expectations: Travelers work 75% of holidays.
RTO: up to 6 days off excluding holidays; must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours.
