Work Shift Night (United States of America) Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, independent decision-making, and self direction. In addition to patient care, the RT II provides patient and family education, coordinates activities, contributes to staff development, and pursues professional and self-developmental activities. The RT II addresses population-specific needs across biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and education aspects while caring for patients. The RT II also participates in the education of new employees and others. Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Provides customer service; completes patient care, documentation, and education; maintains a team approach and positive work environment; supports students and staff Administers quality patient care: performs patient assessments, plans therapy in collaboration with the health care team, verifies orders, and administers aerosolized medications, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen & medical gas therapy Ventilator management, weaning, waveform interpretation; airway management (intubation, extubation, tracheostomy care) Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students, and peers Location-specific: Assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing Provides Safe & Quality Environment Promotes accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging Promotes patient safety (Medication Safety, NPSG, etc.) Supports performance improvement initiatives to enhance quality of care Encourages evidence-based practice Reviews revised and new program procedures (DPPs) Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Qualifications Required Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with minimally 20 quarter hours of science. Associate's Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications All Certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Respiratory Care Practitioner Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Instructor or ACLS – Provisional Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Instructor or PALS – Provisional Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Instructor or NRP – Provisional Additional Licenses and Certifications Noted as required above. Required Minimum Experience 0-2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care is required. Required Minimum Skills Ability to communicate effectively, strong critical thinking, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases.
