Position Summary The

Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician

is responsible for preparing sterile compounded medications in a cleanroom environment in compliance with USP standards. This position involves producing large-volume batches (up to 250 vials per batch) throughout the shift, following strict aseptic technique, ensuring all work meets quality and safety requirements, and maintaining high productivity. The technician will work in the intravenous cleanroom suite, managing inventory, and assisting with inspections and quality control processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sterile Compounding & Batch Production

Prepare sterile compounded medications according to batch records, compounding logs, and approved formulas.

Compound large batches (up to 250 vials per run) accurately and efficiently.

Follow aseptic technique and proper gowning procedures at all times.

Operate compounding equipment such as repeater pumps, filtration systems, and mixing devices.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Maintain compliance with USP and all applicable state/federal regulations.

Perform and document cleaning, disinfection, and environmental monitoring procedures.

Accurately label and package finished products for pharmacist verification.

Documentation & Recordkeeping

Complete batch logs and compounding documentation with precision.

Maintain accurate records of lot numbers, expiration dates, and quantities used.

Report any deviations, errors, or contamination events immediately to the supervising pharmacist.

Teamwork & Communication

Work collaboratively with pharmacists and other technicians to meet daily production goals.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the sterile compounding area.

Participate in ongoing training and competency assessments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong attention to detail and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a regulated environment.

Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in full cleanroom PPE.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program preferred.

Active pharmacy technician license/registration in the state of practice.

1+ year of sterile compounding experience preferred; USP Category 3 experience desirable.
