Registered Nurse (Hospital‑Based) Role
Deliver nursing care to patients of varying ages using the Nursing Process and Standards of Practice.
Use Nursing Practice Competencies to intervene and achieve safe, optimal patient and family‑centered outcomes.
Apply Leadership Competencies to coordinate patient care and communicate with the care team.
Apply Professional Profile Competencies to develop professionally as a lifelong learner.
Apply Practice Outcomes Competencies to evaluate care based on evidence, the UofL Health quality model, and patient safety goals.
Demonstrate competency caring for complex patients and participate on the care team to improve quality of care.
Essential Functions
Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety and collaborating with the healthcare team.
Independently administer medications per licensure authority, assess and reassess medication effects, and document administration timely.
Plan care using current scientific knowledge, theory, and care standards within the nursing interventions and outcomes framework, incorporating multidisciplinary data.
Identify and prioritize patient problems based on assessment data, safety considerations, and patient/family goals.
Implement nursing care interventions tailored to patient and family health care needs.
Assess, conduct, and evaluate outcomes of patient and family teaching, reflecting sensitivity to age and cultural background.
Evaluate care by performing systematic reviews, revising plans in collaboration with the team, and proactively preventing adverse events.
Advocate for patients and families, prepare them for discharge, and obtain feedback to promote positive satisfaction outcomes.
Collaborate with unlicensed assistive healthcare providers per regulatory and legal requirements, ensuring safe patient care delivery.
Shift Requirements
Shift Length: 12 hours
Shifts per Week: 3
Overtime Requirement: Occasional
Other Functions
Demonstrate professional conduct and accountability.
Orient new healthcare team members and supervise student performance.
Act as relief charge nurse as needed.
Maintain professional competency through continuing education and licensure.
Participate in evidence‑based practice activities and peer review.
Perform duties cost‑effectively, preventing waste of resources.
Maintain compliance with all company policies, HIPAA privacy, and security requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program – required.
All new‑hire ADN RN graduates must begin an approved BSN program within 1 year and complete it within 3 years of hire – required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program – preferred.
Experience
All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency Program and must complete all activities – required.
Two years of hospital patient care experience – preferred.
Licensure
Current Kentucky RN licensure or a compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky – required.
Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association – required.
Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – may be required for specific clinical areas.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – may be required for specific clinical areas.
Note: additional specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit.
