Phlebotomist needed for busy multi-specialty practice in Myrtle Beach. Must have excellent customer service and computer skills. Excellent pay and benefits including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, and 401k. Hours vary: 6:45 am – 4:15 pm; 7 am–4:30 pm; or 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. Mondays through Thursdays & Fridays vary between 6:45 am–10:45 am; 7 am–11 am; 7:30 am–11:30 am; 8 am–12 pm; or 8:30 am–12:30 pm. Half days on Fridays and no weekends! Must be willing to travel between offices.
General Summary of Duties Responsible for performing venipuncture, specimen collection, COVID collection and drug collection. Phlebotomists are expected to collect specimens, perform specimen processing, perform POC Wavered Testing and perform order entry and POC reporting into various Lab Information Systems and EMR without error. Greets and checks in patients, enters, updates, confirms and prints patient information using Athena EMR and Merge LIS. Phlebotomists perform light office duties, including answering the telephone, faxing, filing, obtaining lab orders, scheduling and confirming patient appointments in the EMR, LIS, POC billing and Lab Billing review. Phlebotomists communicate clearly and efficiently with staff and patients.

Essential Functions
Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
Always uses PPE when collecting and handling laboratory specimens.
Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures; collects and processes urine, drug screens and other specimens.
Collects COVID nasopharyngeal specimens properly using required PPE following CDC guidelines.
Positively identifies patient using multiple identifiers.
Verifies patient identification on all orders at time of collection.
Writes patient name, affixes correct specimen label, initials and dates the label in patient’s presence.
Enters patient data and laboratory requests into various laboratories information systems including reference lab portals.
Attaches all Diagnosis codes to requested testing following provider direction and best practices guidelines.
Instructs patients regarding specimen collection procedures including fasting and dietary instructions.
Clears work area including waste removal, following safety, cleanliness and infection control procedures.
Transports and seals all bio‑hazardous waste containers following OSHA and infection control guidelines.
Inventory supplies, replenish working areas, and communicate resupply needs to supervisor.
Packs specimens for transport, following specimen requirements (frozen, refrigerated or room temperature).
Performs Point of Care Testing, performs quality controls and documents all maintenance procedures on POC logs.
Maintains eyewash, cleaning, restocking, temperature and specimen manifest logs.
Works the Athena Workflow dashboard where applicable.
Greets and checks in patients promptly.
Enter patient data into Athena practice management system, checks eligibility, updates or confirms previous data and scans patient insurance card.
Follows provider’s orders accurately without error.
Reviews completed encounters checking for errors or omissions.
Obtains laboratory orders in the EMR; sends patient cases requesting lab order information for future laboratory appointments.
Works the Athena Clinical Laboratory Staff Inbox, performing add‑on requests, answering staff questions, forwarding reports and documents as needed.
Assists in document confirmation and retrieval for QA studies.
Obtains and verifies completion of automated or manual ABNs when necessary.
QC, performs and reports POC Wavered testing without error.
Enter POC Billing and review Lab Billing without error.
Completes, reviews, confirms and sends out reports indicated by the Fax Log when needed.
Notifies supervisor of any information download problems or computer issues.
Assists co‑workers as needed.
Attends all mandatory training and meetings.
Performs additional tasks as assigned.
Demonstrates current competencies applicable to the position.
Education High school diploma or equivalent. Applicant is expected to have graduated from an accredited Phlebotomy program.
Experience Minimum one‑year work experience, preferably in healthcare. Phlebotomy experience is expected.
Requirements Phlebotomist must have or be eligible to sit for a National Phlebotomy Certification. All phlebotomists who do not have a Certification and are eligible to sit for a National Phlebotomy Certification are expected to obtain the Certification within 90 days of employment.
