TERM INSTRUCTOR - CHEMISTRY (TEMPORARY FULL-TIME TERM POOL)

– Department: Natural Sciences – Position Type: Term Faculty – Employment Status: Term – Salary: Minimum $58,760.00 per 9 months – Open Date: 07/31/2017 – Close Date: Open Until Filled.

Position Summary Teach five courses per regular semester, which may include online or dual‑credit/early college classes. Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline, and develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students with diverse backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.

Make continuous efforts to advance the quality of instruction.

Develop and use teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.

Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures.

Provide a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of course content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.

Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning, hold scheduled virtual or physical office hours of at least one hour daily, and encourage conferences with students to clarify work and possibilities for improvement.

Assist in academic advising of declared majors and participate in marketing and recruiting activities.

Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to facilitate action plans for systemic improvement and compliance with professional standards and state‑mandated guidelines.

Participate in the self‑evaluation process, establish goals and objectives, and engage in professional development activities.

Serve on committees, accept special assignments, and participate in scheduled institutional activities such as convocation, graduation ceremonies, faculty registration, and College‑related meetings.

Participate in business and community activities that promote the mission of the College and assist in the College planning process.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to plan course instruction based upon an approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.

Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.

Successful college teaching experience is required.

Experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other media in instruction.

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.

Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods that enhance student success.

Knowledge of a learning college and/or learning communities.

Experience teaching college‑level courses and documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).
