What You Will Do GFT is seeking a

Bridge Engineer

to join our Transportation group in Ohio. This role offers flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity assigned to our Columbus, OH office.

What You Will Be Challenged To Do In this role, you’ll help shape bridge and transportation infrastructure that connects communities and supports economic growth across Ohio. At GFT, our bridge and tunnel teams design, rehabilitate, and inspect complex structures, advancing the industry through model-centric, 3D design approaches. Our transportation expertise spans highways, interchanges, and transit and rail systems, where we create resilient, sustainable solutions that strengthen the transportation network.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with the bridge design team to develop portions of plans and details.

Perform design calculations, prepare specifications, and determine material quantities and cost estimates as part of the project team.

Use CADD to develop 2D and 3D models and construction plans.

Establish pay items, calculate quantities, and prepare construction cost estimates and schedules.

Assist with bridge inspection activities for both routine and complex structures under the direction of the Inspection Team Leader.

Calculate load ratings for various bridge types.

Work independently on small projects.

Prepare initial drafts of technical reports or sections of larger reports.

Participate in client meetings, data collection, and coordination efforts.

Participate in field work, which may include overnight travel.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structures.

PE License in Ohio.

4 years’ experience in bridge design and/or detailing.

Bridge inspection experience and/or training.

Working knowledge of plan development with CADD (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).

Working knowledge of geometry and structural design software.

Working knowledge of Design Manuals and Design Guidelines.

Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to work independently as part of a design team.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Compensation The salary range for this role is

$80,000 – $105,000

per year, dependent upon experience and geographic location.
