Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Occasional overtime and on-call duties)
Job Summary The Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing mobile mill equipment and vehicles. You will play a key role in minimizing downtime and ensuring that our machinery operates at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on forklifts, loaders, and other mobile mill equipment
Service company vehicles, including trucks and mobile machinery, both in the shop and on-site
Respond to urgent breakdowns to minimize operational disruptions
Maintain accurate records of all repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules
Work collaboratively with mill staff to identify recurring issues and suggest improvements
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe work environment
Maintain detailed records of all services performed, including parts used and time spent on repairs
Familiarity with the operation of the engine, hydraulics, and other systems of mobile equipment
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, and a strong understanding of diesel engine functionality, hydraulics, and vehicle systems
Quickly and efficiently troubleshoot issues and solve them
Ensure all repairs and maintenance work are carried out accurately and efficiently
Clearly describe problems and solutions to supervisors and operators
Ability to work in a team with other mechanics, operators, and supervisors
Must have the ability to safely replace worn-out tires and wheels on forklifts, company vehicles, and other mobile equipment as needed
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various weather conditions, as the job often involves physical labor
Manage the inventory of parts and tools, ensuring necessary supplies are available and the workshop remains organized at all times
Must be able to build strong relationships with all vendors/contractors needed to assist with repairs
Must be a self-starter capable of identifying issues, prioritizing tasks, and taking proactive steps to resolve problems without constant direction
Responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with vendors to ensure reliable service, timely delivery, and effective communication
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
2+ years’ experience as a mechanic, preferably in an industrial or lumber mill setting
Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems
Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and adapt to changing situations
Excellent problem-solving and communication skillsAt least 5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance/millwright/mobile equipment experience OR equivalent education/experience OR 3 years in a lumber manufacturing environment as a mechanical maintenance/millwright/mobile mechanic
Proficiency with hand/power tools, precision instruments, and technical drawings
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems
Ability to lift heavy components, work in confined spaces, and tolerate extreme temperatures
Welding and torch work experience
Willingness to work any shift, weekends, and holidays
Commitment to safety and continuous learning
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of diesel mechanic experience
Completion of a mechanical vocational or trade school program
Familiarity with SAP/S4
