The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic travels to job sites to perform skilled tasks in the repair of all fleet vehicles, machinery, motors, tools and equipment used by the company. Responsibilities
Operate in Sunland's Core Values at the forefront of all duties. Act as a safety ambassador by complying with laws and company safety policy; enforce safe work practices and identify and remedy worksite hazards. Direct all employees to wear appropriate PPE and follow safety guidelines at all times. Conduct Safety Meetings including daily PTP and weekly Tailgate Topics. Work with Sunland supervisors to receive and prepare preventative maintenance (PM) work orders; relay PM work orders and information to Mechanics. Diagnose hydraulic systems. Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks (e.g., pavers, rollers, milling machines, dump trucks, water trucks, boot trucks, front-end loaders, scrapers, skid steers, skip loaders, motor graders) and other fleet vehicles. Fabricate, modify and install equipment or replacement parts using mills, lathes, welders, torch sets, plasma cutters and metal cutting tools. Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments (fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, clutches); change filters, oil and lubricate vehicles and equipment. Troubleshoot machine systems including hydraulics, powertrains and engines. Replace components such as transmissions, engines, differentials, torque converters and final drives. Maintain work orders and perform work area inspections; prioritize repairs. Collaborate with shop staff to maintain a clean and safe work environment. Prepare work orders and cost estimates; may maintain inventory and order fuel, parts, tools, equipment and supplies. Any other duties as assigned. Competencies

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to the company\'s drug and alcohol policy and OSHA regulations. All employees must wear appropriate PPE and follow safety guidelines at all times. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must operate vehicles and trailers safely and in compliance with laws. Must operate equipment and tools in accordance with safety guidelines. Work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold. Must wear PPE in various situations. Lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris may occur. Position Type / Hours
Full-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required as duties demand. Travel
Must be willing to travel to all job sites and stay away from home if necessary. Minimum Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience working on heavy equipment. High School Diploma or GED required. Excellent decision-making skills. Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electrical systems. Scanner diagnostics a plus: OTC vehicle/CAT ET. Fluent in English (speak, read, write). Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Current driver\'s license required. CDL preferred and may be required in some departments/divisions. Medical certification required. Clean motor-vehicle record. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check required. AAP/EEO Statement
