Process Engineer

Ortec Inc. The Process Engineer position directs and performs process improvements in current manufacturing equipment and assists in the introduction of new processes into new or existing equipment. This role focuses on optimizing current processes, scaling up new technologies, and enhancing equipment performance to improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The position involves cross-functional collaboration, hands-on troubleshooting, and the application of chemical engineering principles to solve complex manufacturing challenges. Essential Functions
Prioritize safety in all activities, including daily operations, troubleshooting, and implementation of process improvements related to quality, waste reduction, and productivity. Proactively develop, recommend, and implement process improvements for quality, waste and productivity improvement, and respond to production team needs. Assist in the evaluation, procurement, installation, and optimization of new or existing production equipment, with a focus on enhancing efficiency and reliability. Work systematically with engineering and maintenance to evaluate and analyze manufacturing processes/equipment issues and data from failures; create and implement recommendations for reliability improvements. Analyze complex formulas, equipment, specifications, drawings, and other engineering data to optimize process configurations for new products, technologies, and production processes to meet the goals of the company and its customers. Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot issues and drive improvements in safety, production, product quality, and cost efficiency. Assess and determine the maximum capacity of existing equipment and propose process upgrades or enhancements to expand production capabilities. Design, implement, and troubleshoot chemical processing equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, filtration systems, and control systems. Operate independently with minimal supervision, coordinating effectively across departments to complete tasks and deliver improvements. Maintain a deep understanding of both equipment functionality and chemical interactions within manufacturing processes. Partner with teams in R&D, Production, maintenance, quality, procurement, and suppliers, as needed, to support product development and operational needs. Create and update P&IDs to reflect current process layouts and control systems. Education
B.S. in Chemical Engineering, 3+ years related experience, or M.S. in Chemical Engineering with 2+ years related experience Experience
Experience in chemical manufacturing and chemical plant operations Proficiency in capital cost estimation and conducting feasibility studies for plant improvements. Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (including HAZOP, PHA, and MOC practices). Proven ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities. Experience in the preparation of plant layouts and equipment lists Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Skills & Abilities
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and AutoCAD. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong team orientation and collaborative mindset to interact effectively across diverse teams and functions. Customer-centric approach with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
