This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all facilities. Responsibilities
Mechanical design, hardware development, and visualization using 3D CAD Create, interpret, and review mechanical drawings Oversee the project lifecycle from requirements intake to design, construction, commissioning, and ongoing support Develop hardware design and process flow for automated equipment and tooling in simulated and real-world settings Design custom automation equipment including robotic end effectors, material handling equipment, structural components, and cell/system layouts with safety guarding Provide production support for manufacturing equipment and perform root cause analysis for improvements Project management and vendor/supplier management Support initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes through automation; define the technical architecture, roadmap, and implementation Integrate mechanical, electronic, pneumatic, and related components into unified systems Improve existing systems for optimal performance and reliability Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, and/or process simulations Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet system requirements Required Qualifications
4+ years of experience with from-scratch design, procurement, assembly, commissioning, and maintenance of automated tooling or equipment 4+ years of CAD experience with strong GD&T on 2D drawings and engineering release Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong engineering fundamentals Hands-on problem-solving abilities and ability to simplify design and processes Clear, collaborative communication with partners High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to earn trust and contribute to an inclusive culture Understanding of control systems, robotics, and automated industrial equipment and processes Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field Experience in manufacturing and/or integration of automated equipment Experience with ANSYS or similar FEA/multiphysics tools Exposure to controls and automation software Design and modification of PLC, CNC, and robot programs Knowledge of Python, C/C++, or MATLAB Ability to interpret and review electrical drawings Mechanical design for process control systems (Welding, Machining, Drilling, Surface Finishing, Forming, Material Handling, NDT, Metrology, Machine Vision, etc.) Experience with industrial automation solutions Culture and Compliance
