Responsibilities
Inspects construction sites and projects
Conducts field inspections of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing installations
Coordinates materials testing
Coordinates inspections with other city departments and private utilities
Prepares and maintains accurate and detailed inspection reports
Advises property owners, architects, engineers, and contractors of code requirements
Leads and trains new Construction Inspectors
Observes reported problems or violations
Recommends corrective actions
Utilizes software applications
Communicates effectively
Determines quantities of work completed
Maintains current knowledge of technical and regulatory changes
REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY OPTION 1 Four years of experience in the supervision or inspection of civil infrastructure engineering construction work, including reading and interpreting complex construction documents and making calculations therefrom.
OPTION 2 Two years of experience as a Construction Inspector in the service of the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works.
PHYSICAL CLASS Physical Class III - Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job‑related essential functions. Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant’s driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION Candidates applying for option II must have County status as a Construction Inspector, demonstrated by holding or having held the position for the required time. Out-of-class experience will not be accepted. No withhold will be allowed. Required experience must be fully met by the last day of filing and clearly indicated on the application.

Experience with reviewing plans and specifications
Experience identifying construction issues and recommending solutions
Applicants must receive a combined passing score of 70% or higher to be added to the list.
Transfer of test components If you have taken identical components recently to other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.
