JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all heavy and stationary equipment used in the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This includes conveyors, compactors, balers, sorters, loaders, excavators, and other yellow iron or recycling equipment essential to production operations. This position ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with company, environmental, and safety standards. The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Mechanic performs troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, welding, fabrication, and mechanical/electrical diagnostics to minimize downtime and support continuous production flow. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

Provide exemplary customer service and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments. Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations. Demonstrate reliable, consistent attendance and a commitment to workplace safety. Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on heavy and stationary MRF equipment. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyors, balers, compactors, and other production equipment. Conduct welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs as required for equipment restoration or modification. Troubleshoot breakdowns and restore functionality quickly to support production uptime. Maintain accurate work orders documenting time, parts used, and services performed. Operate forklifts, loaders, and other mobile equipment as needed to move materials or access equipment. Support plant operations by ensuring all repairs meet quality, performance, and safety standards. Proactively report equipment issues, hazards, and safety concerns to the Production Supervisor. Maintain clean, organized work areas in compliance with 5S and safety practices. Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and maintenance workshops. REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to: Production Supervisor, Compost/MRF. Supervises: Provides direction to Equipment Operators and temporary staff. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Education

High School Diploma or GED Experience

Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial, heavy equipment, or recycling facility maintenance. Experience maintaining and repairing conveyors, balers, or sort line equipment. Welding and fabrication experience required. Basic computer literacy and familiarity with maintenance software. Valid Class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Knowledge & Skills

Heavy industrial and recycling equipment including conveyors, compactors, balers, and sorting systems. Hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Welding and fabrication (MIG, TIG, stick, and cutting torch). Preventive maintenance practices and mechanical troubleshooting. Safe work practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and confined space protocols. Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems efficiently. Reading and interpreting technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics. Using power tools, diagnostic devices, and measuring instruments safely and accurately. Working independently and collaboratively in a production environment. Communicating clearly in both written and verbal forms. Prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively in a fast-paced setting. Bilingual in Spanish. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
