Job Description Summary This position facilitates, with CNO, the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of procedures and programs in support of nursing excellence, research, and an evidence-based practice environment. He/She acts as a liaison with the American Nurses Credentialing Center in all aspects of organizational Magnet Status or Pathway Status including interim reporting, demographics, and submission of documents. In addition to guiding the process for Magnet or Pathway Designation He/She integrates the Nursing Philosophy along with the mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives of OhioHealth in daily operations. He/She acts as an educational resource for staff nurses, managers, nurse administrators and other specialty roles. He/She acts as a mentor and/or facilitator of teams or groups. He/She acts as a consultant and resource to contribute to a culture of nursing excellence throughout OhioHealth. The Manager of Nursing Excellence collaborates with the CNO to ensure one standard of care and practice for professional nursing throughout the organization.

Responsibilities And Duties 35% Leadership

Provides leadership in assurance of professional nursing practice environment in which registered nurses are autonomous, govern their practice, and are accountable to provide effective, efficient, safe and compassionate quality care.

Facilitates development of leadership activities and promotes staff and self‑attendance at meetings and educational programs.

Provides input into executive‑level decisions.

Facilitates atmosphere of shared decision making, participative management and development of collegial relationships among nursing and other organization staff.

Facilitates work of individuals and/or groups e.g. unit councils, nurse leaders, committees, or task forces to monitor and/or incorporate evidence-based sources in the development of programs, procedures, and policies.

Serves as link between nursing staff and other health care disciplines, both within and outside of organized nursing services. Interprets and facilitates application and implementation of philosophy, objectives, and standards; identifies methods and monitors achievement of relevant objectives and standards.

Takes a leadership role at the system level to support and promote the above.

35% Operations

Responsible for identifying methods to achieve, maintain and monitor systems of clinical and administrative records and reports to meet standards of regulatory and licensing agencies.

Implements effective and ongoing programs to measure, assess and improve quality and appropriateness of nursing care delivered to patients.

Collaborates with nursing staff and leadership to assess, develop, monitor, and evaluate how regulatory requirements and professional standards are incorporated into the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional models of care. Supports and facilitates innovative idea sharing between various sources and entities to initiate research and education.

Assesses impact of and plans strategies to address the changing needs of the healthcare organization.

Coordinates and supports all aspects of Magnet Designation or Pathway Designation, including elements of requirements and submission of all documentation.

15% Evidence‑Based Practice/Research

Provides support for conduct, dissemination, integration, and utilization of research to ensure evidence‑based nursing practice, healthcare, and management systems. Advocates for resources to support research.

Collaborates with other professional disciplines to achieve organizational goals.

Serves as a professional role‑model and mentor to motivate staff in the implementation of evidence‑based nursing practice.

15% Professional Development

Develops and maintains professional competencies by attending educational and leadership programs and participating in professional and community organizations.

Seeks opportunities for publication, presentation, and professional leadership in professional and community societies.

Promotes environment for learning; encourages and facilitates staff and management attendance and internal and external educational activities.

Serves as a mentor or officer of system groups, organization groups and/or committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

BLS – Basic Life Support – American Heart Association

RN – Registered Nurse – Ohio Board of Nursing

Specialized Knowledge

Master of Science in Nursing or BSN with Master’s in related field.

Current BLS Provider; RN licensure in State of Ohio.

Scope and standards of practice for nurses and nurse administrators; clinical nursing care and nursing operations from the unit and organizational perspective; administrative concepts, organizational behavior, change management, process management and improvement, program development, evidence-based concepts, legal and ethical matters; computer applications in healthcare.

Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, verbal & written communication, adult principles, meeting facilitation and team building.

Ability to manage and lead teams and groups at local as well as system level.

3 to 5 years of leadership experience such as Nurse Manager, Outcomes Manager or Educator.

5 to 7 years of clinical nursing in acute care health care setting.
