Automotive Dealership Accounting Office Manager / Controller Private Company – Columbia, SC Full‑time, Mid‑Senior level

Major Auto Group is seeking a skilled and experienced accounting office manager / controller to lead our dealership’s back‑office operations. In this full‑time, leadership role, you’ll oversee accounting processes, financial reporting, HR compliance, and team management. You’ll work closely with the General Manager to ensure accuracy, compliance, and profitability.

Responsibilities

Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and forecasts, and ensure timely tax filings (income, payroll, 1099s, W‑2s, etc.)

Oversee all accounting functions including GL audits, daily bank reconciliations, deposits, payroll, and floor plan management

Manage manufacturer rebates, warranty claims, service contract cancellations, and parts statement reconciliation

Calculate, prepare and submit payroll biweekly as well as monthly commissions

Keep accurate payroll and time‑keeping records by pay date

Supervise and mentor the office team, oversee hiring/onboarding, and maintain complete employee records and benefits tracking

Ensure HR and regulatory compliance, including workers’ compensation and injury reporting

Collaborate with the GM and department leaders on budget tracking, inventory coordination, and advertising reconciliation

Serve as the main point of contact for 401(k), insurance, vendor communications, and annual financial reviews

Maintain clean schedules, support dealership operations, and step in to manage overflow or provide coverage when needed

Requirements

Automotive dealership office management experience is required

Deep knowledge of dealership financial statements, tax compliance, and manufacturer reporting

Proficient in dealership management systems (CDK, Reynolds, Dealertrack, etc.). Dealertrack experience is preferred

Strong leadership and organizational skills

High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship and be a current resident

Must pass pre‑employment testing to include background checks, MVR, and drug screen
