Environmental Specialist

– Oneida, NY. This is a broad-spectrum Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professional position providing technical and professional support to operations staff, with guidance from the Senior EHS Manager. The Specialist will oversee environmental programs and compliance for the site and coordinate the Process Safety Management (PSM) program. Work Schedule
Split Shift – 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Additional hours as needed by business needs. Responsibilities
Facilitate and manage environmental permitting to ensure all required permits are in place, current, and properly managed. Coordinate the facility’s Risk Management Program (RPM) and Process Safety Management (PSM) for Anhydrous Ammonia. Oversee environmental regulatory programs for the plant (air, stormwater, wastewater, boilers, water and energy usage, waste permits, hazardous materials/waste, universal waste, SPCC, recycling, sustainability reporting, greenhouse gas tracking, Tier II/Form R reporting). Maintain a compliance calendar and issue regular status reports on environmental programs and permits. Identify opportunities to optimize energy and water usage and reduce waste, aligned with Hood sustainability priorities and targets; manage related tracking and special projects. Update and implement the plant’s Integrated Contingency Plan. Represent the site on the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) as appropriate. Provide direction and training to employees regarding environmental programs and permits. Collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure environmental programs and permits are understood and compliant. Other EHS department projects and duties as needed. Education And Experience
BA/BS in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline, plus 3–5 years of related experience preferred. A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred; food & beverage experience a plus. Skills And Competencies
Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory programs. Ability to lead and advise multiple departments affected by EHS programs. Collaborates with Packaging, Processing, Quality, Sanitation, Warehouse, and other departments to align EHS with Food Safety and GMP requirements. Clear, persuasive communication; receptive to feedback and able to learn new skills. Self-disciplined, motivated, and driven for excellence. Physical And Additional Requirements
Ability to work in a factory environment; may involve standing, walking, climbing, and prolonged periods of activity. Ability to wear required PPE and lift up to 50 lbs; occasional travel may be required for training or assignments. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
