Postdoctoral Research Associate – Neural Circuits and Movement (Jay Bikoff Lab)
A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated individual with a background in neural circuits to join the lab of Dr. Bikoff in the Department of Developmental Neurobiology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
The goal of our research is to understand how neural circuits control movement. We approach this from multiple perspectives, using diverse technologies to analyze the molecular heterogeneity and connectivity of spinal neurons. We explore how descending systems in the brain convey information to the spinal motor system and define the functional roles of spinal interneurons in generating behavior.
Responsibilities
Investigate the connectivity of genetically defined populations of spinal interneurons using expansion microscopy, tissue clearing and light‑sheet imaging, viral tracing, and transcriptomic methodologies.
Develop and conduct experiments to map synaptic and circuit organization of spinal neurons that enable locomotion.
Analyze large datasets generated from imaging and molecular studies with programming languages such as R or Python.
Independently design and execute experiments, interpret data, and contribute to publications.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary, highly collaborative team, and support lab members.
Qualifications
PhD in neuroscience or a related discipline.
Prior experience studying neural circuits, preferably in the spinal cord system.
Familiarity with programming languages (R, Python) and ability to work with large datasets.
Strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
Ability to independently design and execute experiments and interpret data.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Benefits St. Jude provides world‑class facilities, state‑of‑the‑art technologies, and extraordinary support for your research. The lab offers individual mentoring and training at all career stages. St. Jude is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
