Product Development Coordinator
Reports to: Product Development Manager
Summary Performs, processes, maintains and improves all technical aspects of customer graphics projects including art files/designs, implementation of new jobs, materials, and responsible technical customer relationship. Responsible for overseeing project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring successful project completion. Ensures the integrity of press-side customer approvals in the plant and guarantees availability of standards for color and copy for all products.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards
Effectively coordinates and collaborates with internal and external customers regarding new, improved, or changed designs, organizing all project activities to guarantee successful new product launches with no press impacts, long‑term cost efficiency, on‑time delivery, and full compliance with customer requirements.
Promotes active customer involvement by processing new designs and printing substrates to maximize production to customer satisfaction while keeping product development costs to a minimum.
Coordinates and communicates with customers regarding new, improved or changed designs.
Ensures relevant stakeholders from operations are fully informed and aligned on production specifications and requirements. Facilitates regular meetings and communication channels to guarantee mutual understanding.
Requests and approves the development of new inks with suppliers in alignment with customer requirements and process needs for optimal print performance, applying stringent controls to color and ink issues.
Demonstrates an in‑depth understanding of print and converting fundamental principles and techniques, especially offset, gravure, inline and offline die‑cutting, hot‑foil stamping and fold/gluing.
Works independently to deliver the highest quality products.
Determines optimal print sequence in partnership with operations, adjusts trappings and overprints to prepare stepped files with necessary printing marks for process control, and coordinates efficiently with prepress providers to maintain customer artworks and combine process requirements.
Estimates tooling investment for new projects and manages approvals with customers or through the technical account team.
Organizes on‑press approvals with customers, supports color matchings and coordinates the preparation of color booklets with customer signatures.
Manages project timelines and on‑time delivery of tools for first productions.
Exhibits excellent communication skills and high business ethics when dealing with customers at their locations.
Maintain Quality Control and Product Improvement Through Technical Expertise and Experience
Orders, designs and maximizes use of all cylinders required to meet production needs, utilizing existing cylinders and designs whenever possible to control costs.
Secures all pertinent information relevant to the decision‑making requirements of new versus old cylinders.
Relates new designs to cylinder vendors to secure the highest quality equipment to meet production needs.
Designs and implements tooling needs to ensure availability to production with minimal down‑time and make‑ready times.
Maintain Highest Productivity Involving All Other Graphics Coordinators at the Various Sites to Maximize Production and Costs
Effectively utilizes advanced technologies to implement computer solutions to improve the graphic function.
Works with all levels of production teams to gain insight into ongoing printing issues related to current cylinder and tool usage, utilizing test materials to determine exact color matching and design flow working with production personnel to ensure full compliance with customer graphic requests.
Maintain Full Documentation of All Graphic Functions to Ensure and Maintain Highest Customer Confidence
Ensures all tests and testing materials are property documented in terms of composition and all record keeping complies with standard policies and procedures as well as industry standards.
Maintains confidential nature of all graphics related information including computer files, documents, samples, and conversations.
Documents, records and develops tracking and analysis of the life of various cylinders, tooling and re‑use.
Control Costing Issues Through Administration of Graphic Function
Controls costing of equipment used, cylinders, tooling etc. by effective dealings with suppliers and vendors to insure the highest quality equipment while maintaining costs at market or lower level.
Controls and approves all invoices involved in the graphic/production process making sure all documentation is properly executed, signed and approved.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field, applies relevant new knowledge to performance of responsibilities.
Participates in professional continuing educational programs when available.
Incorporates knowledge of pertinent new trends, developments and ideas into the department procedures and makes recommendations for related changes.
Provides assistance to other teams and department members when necessary.
Understand the OHSE and Quality Obligations, Actively Support the Policies and Implement the Guiding Principles in Everyday Activities
Any and all other assignments, task, and projects as may be requested by management.
Requirements
Technical degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Engineering, project management or similar graduation.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, preferably in the printing industry, with roles related to NPI, packaging engineering, continuous improvement, etc.
Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Excel and Word; basic skills in Adobe Illustrator.
Strong interpersonal skills, with particular ability to manage customer relationships and work within a team environment.
Physical Demands
This position may require prolonged periods of sitting, stooping, standing, and/or reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking. Use of close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus. Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
