Design Engineer III – Hunt Valley, MD
Wallace Montgomery seeks an experienced Bridge Engineer to join our Hunt Valley, Maryland team. In this role, you will develop bridge and structural construction documents for transportation projects across Maryland, focusing on Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and local municipalities. The role includes leading bridge safety inspections and supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits.
Essential Functions
Prepare bridge and structure design calculations, plans, and estimates for new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
Assist with and lead NBIS‑compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and designated routes throughout Maryland.
Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
Support the development of construction documents and specifications.
Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control and assurance efforts.
Supervise designers and technicians of routine activities and projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge design and/or inspection.
Experience with MDOT bridge design guidelines, inspection procedures, and permit review processes strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Bridge inspection certifications: NHI‑130055, NHI‑130056, NHI‑130078, or NHI‑130087.
