Job Summary
A Computer and Information Research Scientist position in Adelphi, MD is currently available through Belcan at one of our key defense clients. To be considered for this role, you will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Information Sciences, or Mathematics, along with fifteen (15) years of research or technical experience in a scientific or technical field relevant to high performance computing (HPC) systems and infrastructure. You must possess specialized knowledge needed to maintain H-root DNS service and have five (5) years of directly related technical experience in support of task-specific HPC projects, with recognition as an expert in your field. In this role, you will be responsible for advancing HPC capabilities, optimizing large-scale computational systems, and ensuring the reliability of critical network infrastructure that supports defense research and computational science initiatives. This is a master-level position offering an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of computational research and infrastructure management supporting national defense and scientific discovery.
Job Duties
Conduct cutting-edge research and development to advance high performance computing capabilities, including parallel computing architectures, workload optimization, and scalable system design.
Design and implement solutions for large-scale computational problems, leveraging HPC clusters, distributed computing frameworks, and advanced algorithmic approaches.
Maintain and optimize H-root DNS service operations, ensuring seamless network infrastructure support for HPC environments and critical computational workflows.
Lead technical investigations into HPC system performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing optimizations to maximize computational efficiency and resource utilization.
Serve as the principal technical expert for assigned HPC projects, providing authoritative guidance on system architecture, computational methods, and infrastructure requirements.
Develop and evaluate emerging technologies for HPC environments, including accelerator technologies (GPUs, FPGAs), high-speed interconnects, and next-generation storage solutions.
Collaborate with computational scientists, researchers, and engineers to translate complex scientific requirements into optimized HPC solutions.
Provide technical leadership in capacity planning, system integration, and performance tuning for mission-critical HPC infrastructure supporting defense and research applications.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, Information Sciences, or Mathematics.
Fifteen (15) years of research or technical experience in a scientific or technical field relevant to high performance computing systems, infrastructure, and applications.
Five (5) years of directly related technical experience in support of task-specific HPC projects (experience may be concurrent).
Specialized knowledge and expertise in maintaining H-root DNS service and network infrastructure for HPC environments.
Recognized expert status within the HPC domain for task-specific projects, demonstrated through technical contributions and problem-solving capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Master's or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computational Sciences, Applied Mathematics, or related technical field.
Deep expertise in HPC architectures, parallel computing paradigms (MPI, OpenMP, CUDA), and performance optimization techniques.
Experience with major HPC job schedulers and resource managers (e.g., Slurm, PBS, LSF).
Proficiency with scientific computing frameworks, numerical libraries, and simulation software used in defense and research environments.
Strong background in DNS architecture, protocols, and security frameworks at the root server level.
Experience with large-scale storage systems, parallel file systems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS), and data-intensive computing workflows.
Knowledge of Linux system administration, networking protocols, and cybersecurity best practices for HPC environments.
Publications, patents, or conference presentations demonstrating thought leadership in HPC, computational science, or related areas.
Experience working in defense, national laboratory, or government environments with complex security and compliance requirements.
Compensation We provide a competitive pay and benefits package. This position offers a salary range of 195,000 - 235,000. Belcan considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to education, experience, geographic location, and discipline.
