Job Summary The Licensed Surveyor is responsible for overseeing and performing land surveying tasks, ensuring accurate measurements, boundary determinations, and project compliance. This role includes leadership, project management, client interaction, and mentoring junior survey staff.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct and supervise field surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
Prepare and review survey plats, maps, legal descriptions, and related documentation.
Ensure all surveying work meets professional, legal, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to provide survey input for land development and public works projects.
Manage survey crews, including scheduling, training, and quality control.
Review and approve survey reports, calculations, and drawings.
Maintain knowledge of local, state, and federal survey regulations and best practices.
Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and governmental agencies.
Assist in proposal preparation, project budgeting, and resource allocation.
Qualifications
Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in VA preferred.
Minimum [5+] years of experience in land surveying, land development, and/or public works projects.
Strong understanding of surveying equipment, CAD software, and GIS applications.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to work in various field conditions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Skills
Experience with GPS, robotic total stations, and advanced survey technologies.
Knowledge of construction staking for roads, utilities, and site development.
Familiarity with regulatory permitting and legal property descriptions.
