NERC O&P Compliance Specialist

AES is seeking an innovative and motivated individual to participate in the NERC compliance efforts for its rapidly growing renewable energy portfolio. This position provides the opportunity to support one of the largest renewable energy portfolios in the U.S. while playing a pivotal role in ensuring that AES builds, operates, and maintains the portfolio to standards that exceed industry best practices.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and can tackle multidisciplinary challenges in coordination with various AES teams and third parties. This role will support the growth of the AES NERC Compliance team as the renewable portfolio continues to expand.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a Compliance Business Partner for AES Operations & Planning (O&P) Compliance.
Serve as a technical expert within O&P workgroup to ensure AES implements O&P NERC Reliability Standards Requirements within regulatory deadlines.
Lead and provide guidance to implement organization-wide strategies, priorities, and documentation to meet reliability compliance requirements.
Contribute to internal control actions through risk assessments and lessons learned.
Follow Standards drafting team and provide guidance to the SMEs on new or revisions to existing NERC Compliance Standards.
Evaluate and support preparation for audits, self-certifications, spot-checks, internal compliance assessments, self-reports, mitigation plans, Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets (RSAWs), and evidence documentation.
Identify process improvement opportunities based on internal compliance assessments, root cause analysis, and industry best practices.
Complete annual review of processes, procedures, and integrate current O&P procedures.
Perform gap analysis on new Standards and establish processes to ensure compliance and reliability, and security of AES assets.
Review and perform quality check on evidence attesting to compliance with applicable NERC Standards and provide guidance to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as necessary.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with industry associations, regional entities, and internal stakeholders to promote business goals and compliance with requirements.
Participate in industry forums and outreach activities.
Represent AES and the O&P compliance program in conferences and meetings with regulators, other agencies, State and local authorities, private industry, and public groups in efforts to obtain all perspectives regarding proposed programs or program changes.
Desired Skills and Expertise:
Four-year bachelor’s in engineering degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance.
Strong verbal and writing skills, technical and non-technical.
Experience with Generator Protection Systems, Facility Ratings, SCADA Systems, Transmission Planning, etc.
Experience with Renewable Generation.
Experience with Standards associated with Transmission and Generation Control Center.
Experience in implementing and/or maintaining a NERC compliance program.
Highly motivated, self-starter willing to take on new challenges.
Prior NERC O&P and utilities compliance experience, including compliance monitoring, training, and audit support.
Exceptional attention to detail with commitment to fostering a culture of compliance.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $105,000 and $131,750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits.
