The person in this role is responsible for manufacturing, loading, and unloading chemical products while assuring compliance with all company policies. The position requires a motivated, detail oriented, and results driven team player who: Incorporates safety and quality into every decision while performing day-to-day activities Effectively communicates with Supervisor and peers Can efficiently operate chemical processes and equipment to safely manufacture quality products Will actively seek out opportunities for process improvement and take full responsibility for collaborating with management and peers to implement approved changes in a timely manner The employee in this position will be a positive-natured, task-oriented individual with chemical manufacturing experience and significant mechanical aptitude. The Chemical Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of plant processes and equipment. The person must possess excellent communication skills necessary to keep the Supervisor and peers informed of process status. This person must be personally and professionally motivated to work constructively with team members at all levels within the company, to execute job responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the process or processes assigned, including the safe transfer of hazardous chemicals Apply all plant safety rules, work guidelines/practices, and procedures Wear and maintain personal protective equipment required for working with hazardous chemicals Develop and apply improvements in processes, equipment and procedures Daily Responsibilities: complete walk-through of the process and equipment to audit safety and maintain operational records Document process conditions and update batch records for production evaluations Collect samples and perform routine chemical lab analysis and calculations required to manufacture products and make batch modifications Assist with cleaning and reloading of chemical reactors for production runs Operate and maintain equipment critical to operating the plant including process reactors, pumps, valves, filters, and other process equipment Monitor plant instrumentation and adjust process conditions in order to produce chemicals within company specifications Complete all paperwork accurately including batch sheets and lab reports Work with Production manager to coordinate manufacture of finished goods and ensure final products meet specifications within shipping schedule Blend and mix chemicals to meet customer requirements and complete quality documentation Load drums and/or totes with finished goods and properly label & seal containers Assist in shipping by coordinating the loading of bulk tankers and LTL trailers while completing all necessary paperwork and recordkeeping Assist in receipt of raw materials to the site including offloading and completing all necessary paperwork and recordkeeping Maintain a 5S mentality (Sort, Straighten, Sustain, Shine, Systemize) as USALCO philosophy to maintain a clean and orderly plant Inspect plant equipment daily and report any issues to the Supervisor Assist in routine maintenance activities, including but not limited to: pipe and valve installation, pump replacement, etc. Must be able to work overtime, provide physical labor and occasional weekend work as required to meet business requirements Perform other duties as assigned in support of business goals and objectives
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and skills: planning to prioritize daily process operation; attention to detail; knowledge of chemical manufacturing and equipment Dependable, flexible and able to respond on short notice to satisfy customer requirements Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude; basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office) General industrial maintenance/operations experience including pipe assembly, pump installation and repair, and mechanical equipment knowledge Forklift experience and certification preferred; if not, must be able to complete certification through USALCO
Education
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Experience
Chemical or manufacturing experience preferred Prior forklift driving experience
Essential Functions
Must be able to wear an APR (SCBA respirator system), pass spirometry test, and comply as required Routinely lift 35 to 50 lbs. throughout the shift Routinely stand 80% of shift Routinely climb bulk tanker ladders to load tankers Work in awkward or confined spaces Work indoors and outdoors during all seasons
