Responsibilities & Expectations
Service, repair, and maintain diesel and gas engine‑driven standby generators in the field.
Perform preventative maintenance: scheduled oil & filter changes, spark plugs, coolant, and filters.
Inspect mechanical and electrical systems; conduct visual inspections.
Clean oil, fuel, air filters, cooling system and exterior of the unit.
Load‑bank test and function test including ATS.
Troubleshoot alternators, wiring harnesses, switches, switchgear, battery systems, engine.
Diagnose with multimeter and other meter tools.
Commissioning & start‑ups: design review, testing, switchgear, program control panel, network.
Service brands: Kohler, Rehlko, CAT, Cummins, Generac, Deere, Onan, MTU, Volvo, Mitsubishi, Detroit Diesel, Asco, Atlas Copco, etc. up to 2.5 MW.
Communicate all information to customers in a clear manner.
Document all work in complete reports.
Drive a company service vehicle throughout local counties; maintain vehicle inventory and perform safety maintenance.
Qualifications & Competencies
Graduation from a technical school in generators, diesel, power generation, electric power, relay, or substation technology.
Experience in repair or maintenance of generators preferred.
Mechanical aptitude (technical school optional).
Good communication and customer service skills.
Minimum 3 years of driving experience with a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Clean driving record and ability to obtain DOT medical certification.
Availability for after‑hours and on‑call service.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, operating manuals, and safety guidelines.
Physical ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 75 lbs under demanding conditions.
Work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
