Under the direction of the Unit Manager, this position performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for assisting the operation and maintenance work of a State Park. Duties include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting), assisting with maintenance and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles and grounds. Operates various types of equipment including mowers, trimmers, power tools, tractors, vehicles and other equipment as needed. Performs general visitor assistance including special events. Prepares required reports. Provides visitor information concerning park rules and regulations. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures. NOTE : Temporary position contingent upon funding with fluctuating full-time/part-time hours based on operational needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Completion of the 8th grade. Experience : Experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance. Volunteer or personal experience counts toward required experience. Licensure : Must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver’s license within 30 days of employment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of general facility, building and grounds repair and cleaning techniques. Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques. Knowledge of natural and cultural resources. Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance tasks. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Skill in using hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, chainsaws, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment. Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; effective verbal and written communication. Skill in using standard office equipment and providing quality customer service. Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions; ability to work as a team; ability to follow park rules and regulations; ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and equipment. Ability to collect fees from visitors using a computerized point of sale system. Ability to perform manual labor including lifting up to 50 lbs. WORKING CONDITIONS
Position contingent upon funding. Requires 10 to 40 hours per week with varied schedules. Applicants aged 17 may be considered under Child Labor Laws. Hours may vary by season (March to September). May require overtime and outdoor work in adverse weather. May fluctuate between part-time and full-time. Travel up to 5%. Must conform to TPWD safety procedures.
