Overview
The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a Computer Engineer to join the Arts and Sciences Computing Services team. This position provides technical computing support for faculty and staff in the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Coastal Research Center within the College. The Computer Engineer primarily supports Macs and Windows computers. Responsibilities
Install, configure and deploy MacOS and Windows computers using imaging and management tools (SCCM, FileWave, Munki, MDT, Intune, JAMF, etc.). Provide high level technical support for the assigned departments (desktop, server, software and hardware). Troubleshoot issues and communicate solutions to users in a timely manner. Support various labs with connected scientific equipment and software. Manage and deploy various licensed scientific software packages. Ensure devices are maintained securely with tools like Qualys, including software and hardware updates and security configurations. Interface with university IT services on behalf of users to resolve issues. Maintain accurate documentation for each department. Assist other ASCS team members as required. Assist with and participate in conferences and committees. Provide A/V management and support to department conference rooms. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline. Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience. Experience with MacOS and Windows imaging and management tools (FileWave, Munki, JAMF, SCCM, Intune, MDT, etc.). Experience working with cloud-based and other IT services in MacOS, Windows, iOS and Android environments. Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. It may occasionally require travel to attend meetings and programs. A valid driver’s license is required for this position. Salary
The anticipated hiring range is $70,000–$90,000, commensurate with education and experience. Other Details
