Data Center Mechanical Engineer
Core Responsibilities
Design, review, and optimize mechanical systems for mission-critical data center facilities (HVAC, chilled water, DX, CRAC/CRAH, and containment systems).
Support end-to-end project delivery — from concept design through commissioning and operational readiness.
Perform thermal and capacity analysis to ensure system reliability and efficiency.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions for mechanical system incidents.
Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
Coordinate with electrical, structural, controls, and fire protection teams.
Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, ISO, and local mechanical codes and standards.
Drive energy efficiency initiatives to reduce PUE and operating costs.
Oversee contractors and vendors during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
Support lifecycle asset management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of mechanical infrastructure.
Technical Requirements In-depth knowledge of:
HVAC systems (CRAC/CRAH, AHUs, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, etc.)
Chilled water and condenser water systems
Containment strategies (hot/cold aisle, in-row, rear-door cooling)
BMS / Controls Systems (Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Schneider, etc.)
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling and analysis
Mechanical redundancy principles (N+1, 2N)
Load and capacity calculations
Reliability-centered maintenance
Professional Skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and documentation abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Hands-on experience with commissioning processes (Level 1–5)
Experience working in live, mission-critical environments with strict uptime SLAs
