SPC Mechanical is seeking a detail-oriented
QA/QC Specialist – CWI
to support our construction and fabrication projects. This role is responsible for ensuring welding quality and compliance by reviewing weld maps, certifications, logs, and conducting onsite visual inspections. The position also supports other quality-related tasks across the Specialist’s assigned projects.
Qualifications:
Active Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification
Minimum 5 years of experience in QA/QC inspection
Valid driver’s license
Ability and willingness to travel in-state as needed
Manage QA/QC Validators (as assigned) and manpower planning for quality assurance functions
Monitor welder performance and ensure adherence to approved weld procedures
Support the development and maintenance of site-specific QA/QC Manuals
Prepare job-specific weld logs and ensure compliance with applicable specifications, codes, and standards
Assist with coordination and maintenance of weld maps and drawings
Work with the Construction Administrator to maintain certifications, calibrations, and continuity logs
Participate in project meetings as needed
Ensure all weld procedures are being followed and work meets project quality standards
Perform field verifications of work to ensure craftsmanship and compliance
Support creation and tracking of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs); ensure resolution is verified and signed off
Perform other quality assurance duties as needed to ensure project success
Skills and Abilities:
Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation (Good Documentation Practices – GDP)
In-depth knowledge of ASME codes and state/local/national regulations
Ability to teach, mentor, and support quality culture across teams
Proficiency with weld logs, weld maps, continuity logs, and weld procedures
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and capable of learning various software platforms
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and contract documents
Strong technical writing skills for reports and correspondence
Ability to inspect and assess piping, ductwork, and HVAC/plumbing components for quality and conformance
