Responsibilities

Develop, implement and maintain a comprehensive data management program to include databases such as citizen service request, inventory management, maintenance, projects, regulatory compliance, permit, barricade, asset and equipment inventory. Coordinate fuel reports, employee attendance reports, training records, lift station faults and error reports. Conduct research for best practices in data management and technical solutions to improve productivity. Coordinate and perform phases of database application systems development using mapping software. Provide support by coordinating, designing, modifying, and documenting database programs and procedures. Create queries and procedures for custom reports from databases requested by management. Conduct and coordinate applications planning to recommend information technology for complete maintenance tracking systems and to help analyze and solve operational problems. Analyze and correct database program malfunctions. Coordinate, assemble, analyze, and present related technical reports for department heads from data management programs implemented. Ensure efficiency and standardization within departments and divisions. Evaluate and provide input in selection and development of current data management technologies. Provide technical oversight and training for the service center with program and technical assistance as needed. Formulate specifications for database programs and guide implementation of spreadsheet and database software to management staff. Attend job-related meetings and conferences as requested. Travel to worksites to provide training and technical assistance to staff and address IT needs. Coordinate and prepare progress reports to reflect operational efficiency and effectiveness; interact with the public, vendors, Information Technology Department (ITD), management and other staff on IT issues and concerns. Perform additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned. Typical physical demands

Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer and telephone. Typical working conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office environment except during on-site visits for inventory inspections and meetings. May be exposed to all weather conditions, including fumes, odors, dust, and noise. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field with substantial coursework in database management and five (5) years’ experience in application systems analysis or database management; or any combination of experience or training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Working experience with Microsoft Office Excel strongly preferred. The City Charter requires that City Employees establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
